LIS Connector

The LIS Connector gives a medical device immediate connectivity to laboratory information systems and EHRs, HL7 v2.5/2.6/2.7, ASTM 1394/1381, and POCT1-A over TCP/IP, serial, or file, so you skip months of building and verifying a custom integration. It ships as a library or a server, on Windows or Linux, with the requirements, design, and verification test suite you need for your own submission. Add it to a device you already market, or build it in from the start as part of an instrument program with RND.

Connectivity for your existing device or a new instrument

The LIS Connector works two ways: added to a device you already have in the field, or built in from day one as part of an instrument program RND develops with you. Modern medical devices have to talk to the laboratory information system and, increasingly, the EHR. The LIS Connector provides that connectivity out of the box, the protocols, transports, and message flows a diagnostic instrument needs, so you are not building and verifying an integration layer from scratch while the rest of the submission waits.

Protocols and message flow

The Connector speaks the standards labs actually run, HL7 v2.5/2.6/2.7, ASTM 1394/1381, and POCT1-A, over TCP/IP, serial, or file. It handles host query, sending results, and receiving test orders, in both directions between the instrument and the LIS server.

It ships with a requirements specification, architecture and design, and a verification test suite, so the evidence that it works lands in your quality system, not just ours.

Frequently asked questions

Which protocols and transports does it support?
HL7 v2.5, v2.6, and v2.7; ASTM 1394/1381; and POCT1-A, over TCP/IP, RS-232 serial, or file transport. Messaging covers host query, sending results, and receiving test orders, the interactions a laboratory instrument actually needs.
Do I integrate it as a library or run it as a service?
Either. The LIS Connector ships as a library you embed in your instrument software or as a standalone server, on Windows or Linux, so it fits the architecture you already have.
Why not just build LIS integration ourselves?
You can, but LIS and EHR integration is deceptively deep, and it has to be verified as rigorously as the rest of your device. The Connector saves months of building and testing a custom integration, and comes with a verification test suite that drops into your design history file.
Can it be customized for a specific LIS or middleware?
Yes. The Connector is customized to customer-specific needs, including the quirks of a particular LIS, middleware, or message profile. Tell us the systems you need to talk to and we will confirm the fit.
