The RND Group is selected by Osmetech to design, implement, and test the software for the eSensor® XT-8 Instrument

May 20 2007 - INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The RND Group’s client, Osmetech has developed a new eSensor® system that consists of the eSensor® XT-8 instrument and micro fluidic cartridges. The new features in this system include higher array density, reduced hybridization time, and a more compact and modular instrument design offering true random-access operation and a user friendly touch screen monitor.
Osmetech needed software to run a laboratory instrument that would be visually interesting, functional using only a touch screen as an input device, and robust. The XT-8 is used to detect the presence or absence of specific nucleic acid sequences in a target sample.
Osmetech needed several other support software packages to help with the development and testing of protocols that would run on the instrument. Software was needed to help monitor the QC aspects of the manufacturing of the consumables used by the instrument.
RND Group developed the instrument software while working closely with other vendors of the client, e.g. the hardware manufacturer, and the industrial design group. RND developed in-house applications to manage the creation and long-term tracking of protocols that could run on the instrument. RND assisted with the development of the processing module (processes results and generates reports) for the first commercial protocol, with heavy emphasis on re-use in future protocols. RND developed an in-house application for storing, retrieving, and displaying the measurement data taken throughout instrument and protocol development. RND developed a manufacturing application to create reports needed by the QC department.
Osmetech has submitted a 510K filing and expects to get approval and go to market with the instrument in early 2008.
RND brings its extensive experience developing custom software for FDA regulated products to help Osmetech design, implement and test this software. “This project is the perfect fit for RND because it is full lifecycle, is in line with all the other Molecular projects we are doing, leverages our experience successfully delivering C# solutions for the medical device industry”, stated Tim DeFrench, CEO, The RND Group, Inc.

About Osmetech
Osmetech plc is an AIM-listed public company on the London Stock Exchange under ticker symbol OMH. Osmetech plc is incorporated in England and Wales and its main country of operations is the US. Osmetech plc was founded in 1993, based on electronic odour sensor (“e-nose”) technology. An IPO followed in 1994 and, in 1999, the Company officially changed its name from Aromascan to Osmetech, refocusing the business on the opportunities within the global healthcare market. With the acquisition of the OPTI (blood gas) product line from Roche Diagnostics in 2003, the Critical Care Diagnostic Division was formed, which more than doubled its level of sales revenues in 3 years through a strong network of international distributors.
The Osmetech Molecular Diagnostics division was created from acquisitions of Molecular Sensing plc in October 2004 and Clinical Micro Sensors, Inc. from Motorola in July 2005. Recently, Osmetech divested its Critical Care Diagnostic Division and is now focused on accelerating the expansion and development of the Molecular Diagnostic Division.
Osmetech Molecular Diagnostics
Transforming molecular diagnostics into practical, cost-effective testing solutions.
As the demand for and acceptance of molecular diagnostic tests multiplies, so does the rate of testing decentralization. The movement of molecular diagnostic testing into the clinical laboratories of mid-size hospitals requires greater simplicity, flexible testing capabilities, and cost-effectiveness.
Osmetech Molecular Diagnostics is focused on providing cutting-edge, cost-effective molecular diagnostic technologies and tools that enable a broader range of hospitals and laboratories to offer molecular diagnostic services for improved patient care.
